Master Coffee Roaster

We are looking for an experienced, entrepreneurial Lead Coffee Roaster to develop and lead our new launching coffee line.  Vital Proteins coffee will be an authentic premium brand coffee served in our new café.  The Roaster will be responsible for developing and roasting of coffee variations, maintaining and developing of our process as well as assisting team in blend knowledge.  Our goal will be to offer some of the most premium coffee’s in the world (85+ cup score), and the roaster will be a pivotal piece of creating this experience.  This position will be located out our Franklin Park, IL production facility and report to the Production Manager.


What you will be responsible for:

  • Develop various coffee roasting profiles for Vital Proteins new private label coffee line, must be able to lead and drive product development
  • Fulfill daily coffee roasting needs, perform routine cleaning and maintenance of roaster, control inventory, weighing, and portioning out for recipes
  • Establishing contacts with local, national, and international clients and vendors
  • Create names and descriptions for the created blends and single origin coffees, assist with coffee related events, and work with cafe manager on coffee development
  • Assist with sales of the coffee brand as needed (roast knowledge)
  • Maintaining all SQF, NSF and Organic Certifications


Who you are:

  • Have a passion for coffee and minimum of 3 years of coffee roasting experience required, preferably in a high growth brand
  • Active member of the Roasters Guild preferred
  • Must have strong communication and leadership skills, ability to work under pressure and independently
  • Must have technical aptitude and willingness to learn and try new techniques 
  • Prior experience directly managing a production roasting operation including experience managing production timelines
  • Experience creating and developing of departmental budgets
  • You are a self-starter with proven ability to take initiative and multi-task; you thrive in a startup culture
