Role: 

The Graphic Designer, New Products will be joining our growing team that is focused solely on new innovation products for the company. Working out of the West Loop office, this role will work closely with the VP of Innovation as well as the VP of Design to bring new innovation products to market. The Designer will conduct research of the current market including competitor brands, packaging ideas, and design trends to help define the direction of new products for Vital Proteins. This role requires someone with a strong creative mind who excels at ideation and creative exploration. Inspiration generation, mood boards, and initial packaging mock ups will be a big part of this role. Ability to present design ideas clearly and concisely is a must, as well as the ability to take creative feedback and adapt/refine the direction of the design. Must be able to take multiple iterations and refine towards a final concept that will go to market. Custom product pitches for major retailers will require a fast work pace and ability to execute ideas and digital mockups quickly. Understanding of consumer product packaging is required and experience with supplements/health products is preferred. 

 

What you will be responsible for:

  • Conceptualize and brainstorm new creative packaging ideas for new products in the brand

  • Conduct market/competitor research, pull together inspiration, create mood boards, and ideate creative concepts for product packaging

  • Create digital mockups for new packaging ideas

  • Present design ideas to internal team and refine designs as necessary

  • Rapidly ideate and create mock ups of custom packaging for retailer pitches

  • Work with mock-makers for physical prototypes

  • Attend focus groups for design feedback and refine based on responses

  • Staying up to date on new design tools and creative trends 

  • Working within packaging parameters and adhering to the requirements for supplements/nutritional products set forth by the FDA and our legal team

  • Keeping design assets organized in design file, keeping art assets, design file libraries

  • Managing your time and projects efficiently, comfortable with shifting priorities and project scopes

 

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field 
  • 5-7 years of graphic design experience
  • Packaging design experience required
  • Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) required
  • Strong Adobe Suite Skills (Illustrator & Photoshop)
  • Strong Print and Digital Designer
  • Experience with nutritional products or supplements preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Strong typography, layout, and color knowledge
  • Self motivated & highly organized
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team oriented environment
  • Ability to present ideas to cross functional partners
