VP of Supply Chain

Role:

The VP of Supply Chain will be integral in supporting the scaling growth of Vital Proteins' products, innovations, and customer reach.  This role will be responsible for working with senior leadership to support and provide strategic direction across the organization, encompassing all functions of supply chain.  You will also be tasked with building and leading a world-class supply team at all levels of the organization.  This role will report directly to the CEO and work out of our West Loop headquarters, with frequent travel to our Franklin Park facility and vendor locations as needed. 

 

What you will be responsible for:

  • Develop a supply chain strategy that supports and aligns with overall corporate strategic direction, company financial objectives and customer expectations.
  • Update senior management on core supply chain performance, including product and service level agreements and cost objectives.
  • Develop capabilities and initiatives to support supply chain performance over a multi-year horizon
  • Manage a comprehensive supplier bid process from defining the scope, through negotiation and execution, to awarding the contracts.
  • Review and evaluate supply chain and streamline processes and relationships.
  • Evaluate, set up and manage negotiations, contracts and agreements with all third party partners (manufacturing, vendors, etc.)
  • Responsible for the direction and coordination of purchasing activities.
  • Continually challenge the status quo, seeking new initiatives to keep pace with and leverage opportunities presented by Vital Proteins growth
  • Maintain routines to ensure delivery of core supply chain metrics in terms of cost and service.
  • Prepare and present market analysis reports to top management
  • Continually monitor production capacity, planned output and inventory status, and identify and address current or anticipated shortages and overages
  • Coordinate schedules and resolve issues among suppliers and plants to ensure material availability necessary to support on-time shipments
  • Provide logistical and warehousing support to Third Party Manufacturers and manage third party logistics operations in the warehousing and order fulfillment of customer demand.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal requirements, quality, safety guidelines and standards.
  • Program, manage and participate in the creation, distribution, presentation and/or approval of the company's S&OP process inputs / outputs (e.g., pricing/promo plans, demand forecasts, supply plans, inventory plans, financial plans, etc.) and key metrics (e.g., forecast accuracy, inventory days-on-hand, retail in-stocks, device subsidy, etc.)
  • Manage conflicting strategic priorities and multiple opportunities to find the best way of creating long-term success

Who you are:

  • Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain/Logistics, Business Finance, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
  • 15 + years Food or Beverage industry experience
  • 8 + years of experience in a leadership role, growing and developing a team
  • Strong professional knowledge in all aspects of supply chain (planning, transportation, warehousing, order processing and customer collaboration)
  • Demonstrated success at influencing without authority in supply chain setup and transformation efforts
  • Previous experience in NetSuite or related supply planning systems preferred
  • Conceptual thinker who can move from strategy to tactical implementation seamlessly.
  • Skilled in negotiating and proven record of business acumen 
  • Strong management skills in dealing with internal and external customers
  • Ability to sell and convey new business ideas and concepts
  • Attention to detail with a strategic “big picture” mindset
  • Good spoken and written communication skills and comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and quickly changing priorities 
  • Experience with startups highly desired
