Quality Assurance Shift Lead (2nd Shift)

Role:

The Quality Assurance Shift Lead’s primary responsibility is to lead and support in the execution of quality processes and procedures in support of the Vital Proteins Quality Assurance program. The Quality Assurance Shift Lead will carry out the company vision and mission through his/her work, as an integral part of the Vital Proteins team.  The ability to work and lead in a strong team-based environment is essential.  Reporting to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the Quality Assurance Shift Lead will operate out of the Vital Proteins production facility in Franklin Park.  This position has 2-3 direct reports.  This position fills in for the Quality Assurance Supervisors in his/her absence and backs up their Quality Technician direct reports in their absence.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Manage the shift’s quality assurance technicians’ schedules, performance, attendance, workload and assist when coverage is needed
  • Lead the team ensuring quality checks are completed on time and in full and issues are escalated properly
  • Closely monitor all production runs to ensure quality processes are being followed and help resolve any incidents reports that are recorded during the shift
  • Provide training for food safety and quality standards
  • Review and create batch production records, COAs, and other compliance documents
  • Complete result review forms and release finished products
  • Create and improve SOPs, COA’s, controlled documents, and QA inspection reports
  • Conduct internal audits including GMP, Food Defense and Glass and Brittle plastics audits
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement projects as a team member or as a team leader
  • Effectively work with cross-functional departments in resolving food safety and or quality-related issues and communicate issues to the QA Supervisors
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Enforce employee and facility GMP standards and adherence to HACCP, GMP, NSF, and SQF programs
  • Execute all process in accordance with company standard operating procedures and cGMP
  • Other duties as assigned

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Nutrition, Engineering or related technical field
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to communicate effectively and prioritize multiple projects at once
  • Able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Maintain a positive a hard-working attitude
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Microsoft Office product suite capability including Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Experience working in a GMP environment for food or supplements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You are passionate about the health, fitness, and/or beauty markets
  • Can lift 25-50 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to read and write in the English language
